Sarah’s favourite grasses
Stipa gigantea
Golden oats is a big but graceful grass for impact and structure, with its arching green leaves and panicles of oat-like, purplish flowers.
Calamagrostis ‘Karl Foerster’
This is an upright grass that stands tall whatever the weather and brings a softness and straw colour.
Pampas grass
Cortaderias create an exciting backdrop because of their sheer size, and a bridge between the bigger perennials and the trees.
Sedges
Sarah loves some of the evergreen carex, in particular the Japanese sedges
C. oshimensis ‘Everest’ and
C. oshimensis ‘Evergold’.
