Top tips

-

1

Make deep borders so you can pack in enough plants to keep some interest all year round.

2

Use plants with great evergreen foliage such as heuchera, carex and bergenia for the front of borders, so you’re less aware of any bare earth when you’re looking at the border from a distance.

3

Leave as many perennials and grasses standing throughout autumn and winter as possible. It’s so much more interesting than looking at bare earth and gives it and wildlife some winter protection.

4

Go out each day to take a photo of something in the garden. It’s a good way to see what’s looking good and where needs a bit of help.
