We’re obsessed with the weather!

- Garden News Editor

Let’s face it – we gardeners are obsessed with the weather! Despite the fact there’s nothing we can do to change it, we’re glued to the forecast each evening and always get the long-range view on a Sunday. And with technology as advanced as it is, we can get up-to-the-minute forecasts on our mobile phones – I must confess I check that particular app more than once every single day! Just lately, that app has had to be on its toes because the weather has been changeable, to say the least. It’s hard to equate what the garden looked like last year in April and May with this year; I’m full of admiration for those GN readers who take the time to religiously record the weather over the years – sadly I don’t think I have the discipline to do it! There’s no question that we are a bit behind in the garden, although things will catch up. And there are benefits, too – our editor at large Ian Hodgson has a marvellous wisteria climbing the front of his house, and it is still in flower, much later than usual. A glorious sight! There’s lots to enjoy in this week’s issue of Garden News. If you’re enjoying growing your own edibles, but want to try something a little different, do take a look at our feature on mint (page 22), which includes some very interesting varieties to try, and carrots in all sorts of colours (page 24). It’s so exciting to grow (and eat!)new things. Also, take a look at our tips for sowing biennials (page 35). They might need some patience but they’re absolutely worth it. Have a great gardening week!
