STEP BY STEP
1
Weed the bed thoroughly and lightly fork it over to loosen any surface compaction. Remove all parts of any perennial weeds.
2
Add a few buckets of compost to the surface and rake in to top up organic matter, which is important for long-term plantings.
3
Dig a hole the same depth as the plant pot and place the plant in. Backfill the soil and create a ridge around the edge as a watering reservoir.
4
As heatwaves become more common, be sure to take extra care watering these new plants in regularly and mulching to retain moisture.
