PLANT BULBS FOR AUTUMN BLOOMS

-

The season for planting autumn-flowering bulbs is very short. They need to be planted before they start to bloom, usually in September and October. The most popular are the true autumn crocus and colchicums. Inexpensive Crocus speciosus is probably the best to start with and can be planted in grass or borders in sun or part shade. Early planting is necessary before the corms produce long growth shoots. Colchicums have large bulbs and can be planted in the front of borders but be aware that they have huge leaves in early summer.
