DEADHEAD WATERLILIES

-

As summer progresses and waterlilies produce flowers and older leaves turn yellow and die it’s useful to deadhead them. This doesn’t need to involve wading in as you can usually cut off recently faded flowers with loppers or scoop out older blooms with a fruit picker. By removing dead flowers and yellow leaves you’ll help prevent a build-up of decaying matter in the water, which is especially important in small ponds and where there are fish. It keeps the pond healthy and looking good.
