Give conifers a haircut

Now’s the last chance of the growing season to do something that many gardeners seldom do: prune conifers! Trim the sides and give formal, upright conifers some welldefined edges to give the garden a crisp look for autumn and winter. Avoid cutting conifers back into brown and woody growth because they won’t grow back. Cutting the main shoots of conifers back now is an easy way to restrict their size and prevent them from becoming ‘monster’ plants.

Whip out the secateurs and loppers. It’s chopping time!
