CARE FOR THE HEAP IN HOT WEATHER
As more organic matter is added to the compost heap, don’t forget to give the whole heap a water on warm days. A compost heap will decompose and create beautiful, home-made compost best when it’s damp, as this helps the process. Give the whole heap a turn if needed and throw a bucket of water over it now and again to help keep it moist. It’s also time to start saving your own seeds from plants in the garden, especially poppies, nasturtiums, calendula and lupins. It couldn’t be easier; simply snip the dried flower heads from the plants and leave them to fully dry on a plate or tray, before shaking the seeds out or removing the seeds. Fully dry and store in paper envelopes for sowing in spring – easy!
