Deal with bindweed
This fast-growing perennial is persistent. Long, white, vein-like roots regrow from the smallest root remnant. Removal seems an endless task but persevere with pulling to reduce vigour. Hedge bindweed, Calystegia sepium, has large, white, trumpet flowers that wrap themselves around stems like a trellis, smothering plants, making removal difficult. But rather than reaching for harmful chemicals, treat organically. Snip stems, carefully unwind from prized plants and dig out as much root as possible. Cover invasive patches with weed-suppressant membrane. Never compost bindweed! It’s loved by bees so if you do find yourself inundated, look on the bright side – the pollinators are happy!
