SOW YELLOW RATTLE TO HELP WILDFLOWER MEADOWS

-

Yellow rattle is a semi-parasitic annual wildflower that feeds off the nutrients of other grasses, making it a useful addition in large meadows to suppress the growth of vigorous competing grasses. In autumn, cut the meadow low, remove clippings and weeds, then scarify to expose about 50 per cent bare soil so the seed has direct contact. Scatter seed, rake in and water well. Keep moist while establishing so seedlings have the best chance. Sow before November; wildflower seeds need the cold to germinate. Once established, yellow rattle will shed seed each year and self-seed.
