Beware what lurks beneath…

-

I’ve been idly wondering for a while why my heucheras aren’t thriving, and a close inspection has made all clear. Thanks to a heavy infestation of vine weevil larvae, it turns out they have no roots left at all. Heuchera are resilient, however, and potted into some fresh compost I confidently predict that they’ll survive, but it’s now essential to check the state of my begonias and any other vulnerable container plants and assess the situation. In the unlikely event they’re not all affected, repotting and vigilance will probably work, but if the vine weevil are rampant, a dose of nematodes watered into the compost will help tip the balance in the plants’ favour.
