Harvest ripe walnuts

-

If you’ve got nut trees, the chances are you’ll either notice piles of green-husked nuts on the ground whose casings have split, or that just touching the fruit will make it yield in your hand easily for picking. Make sure you don’t leave the walnut husks too late when they’ve turned brown or black as the fruit inside may be affected and won’t taste nice. Whatever you do, wear gloves when you take the husks off as they’re prone to staining your hands black. You might wish to store the nuts so they harden a little. Keep them in a cool, dry spot or pop them in the oven at 40C for half an hour or so.
