1 My favourite edible flowers include cowslips, roses, lavender, marigolds, monarda and herbs, which are grown in an edible flower bed and around the garden.

2 Try experiment­ing with edible flowers in traditiona­l recipes – I add lavender to lemon drizzle cake and marigolds to carrot cake.

3 Choose highly-scented roses such as ‘Gertrude Jekyll’ and ‘Mme. Isaac Pereire’ to flavour rose petal cake fillings and icing and to make crystallis­ed roses.

4 Delicious elderflowe­r cordial takes on a delicate pink hue made with sambucus ‘Black Lace’ flowers.

5 Signed copies of The Edible Flower Garden and a series of floral recipe cards are on sale at the garden.
