Lift cannas and tender plants

-

We should still be a few weeks away from the first autumn frosts but it’s worth protecting tender plants now while their growth has slowed but before they’re damaged. If you’ve taken cuttings of pelargoniums and fuchsias you can discard the parent plants, but cannas need to be lifted and kept somewhere frost free over winter. Lift the plants, shake off some soil and cut back to near soil level all the stems that have flowered, since these will naturally die back.
