SMALL WAYS TO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE
Tidy carefully
Be careful when clearing borders. Leave vegetation for animals and tidy gently in case you disturb hibernators.
Leave windfalls
Leave a few windfall apples for birds to feast on during bad weather spells. They’ll appreciate the extra food.
Plant a conifer
Conifers provide dense shelter for lots of wildlife. Choose a slow-growing one so it doesn’t take over.
Mulch, don’t dig
Try not to dig borders too much – mulch instead. Moths spend winter under the soil as pupae and shouldn’t be disturbed.
