Trim roses

-

To help prevent damage in winter winds, to remove diseased foliage and give roses a better start in spring, it can be an advantage to cut back roses in autumn. This is a light trim to remove foliage and prevent damage from wind and not a true prune. If you prune roses now, cutting them back hard, it will promote new growth that will be damaged by winter frosts. It’s not desirable to do this. But it’s unlikely any buds formed now will be able to open in the cold weather so hips, buds and upper foliage should be cut away.
