Protect nerines from snails

-

Nerines should be producing their naked flower stems from the bare bulbs now. These aren’t usually affected by pests except for snails, which can chew through the flower stems. Clear away fallen and old leaves from the crowns to remove hiding places. You could put some grit around the neck of the bulbs, which will benefit the plants, and add some slug and snail control as desired. Nerines thrive in dry, sunny sites and flower best if the bulbs are exposed to sun, so remove any weeds and overhanging plants.
