There’s also another group of plants for which autumn propagation is ideal and these are perennials grown from root cuttings. The roots of some varieties will produce shoots that develop into leaves and flowers – you’ll know about this if you’ve ever dug up and moved an Oriental poppy; the roots that are inevitably left behind will soon produce a mass of green shoots.
