Plant a ball chrysanth
No other flowering plant offers such a range of different-coloured blooms at this time of year as hardy chrysanthemums. So, for a burst of vivid colour on your patio, plant up a ball chrysanth that has hundreds of button flowers smothering the foliage. Chrysanths prefer welldrained, loamy compost such as John Innes No 2 and need planting at the same depth in their new pot as they were in the previous one. Site in a sunny spot and water well until plants establish. Grow a single variety in a pot or mix and match for a truly vibrant display. Planting partners include red-berried gaultheria, heucheras, bronze Carex comans, colchicums, nerines and heathers.
