The cheat’s way to re-turf!

-

I’ll let you into a secret. All that stuff you see on telly about stripping off old turf, digging over and re-turfing is not strictly necessary. I discovered years ago it’s entirely possible to lay new rolls of turf directly onto an existing, worn-out lawn without a scrap of preparation. Now, I confess this discovery came entirely by accident. We had a Royal visiting the Physic Garden and some turf near the entrance looked dreadful. As a quick fix we placed new turf on top of it, imagining we’d later remove it and lay it properly. This ultimately didn’t happen, however the turf, possibly buoyed by the warm rotting grass beneath it, established brilliantly, becoming one of the healthiest bits of grass in the garden.

?? ?? Laying new turf doesn’t have to be back-breaking!
