‘Cox’s Orange Pippin’

This is often called the best all-rounder - it’s one of the very best for eating fresh, and is also delicious cooked. However, the trees can be prone to disease and don’t like heavy clay soils. If your conditions are less than perfect, grow it as an espalier against a south or west-facing wall as it saves space and keeps the tree sheltered, or try its descendant ’Sunset’ instead. Harvest in mid-autumn. Stored fruit will keep until January.
