WHAT’S LOOKING GOOD NOW A treat from hesperantha

-

Wandering around in the shed garden where miscanthus ‘Flamingo’ and slightly overblown cosmos are presently the main attractions, I was thrilled to see several spikes of palest pink, lily-like flowers looking positively pristine among the shrinking stems and fading leaves of other perennials. I had forgotten moving several plants of hesperantha ‘Pink Princess’ from a drier bed into the bottom bed of the brick garden where soil is deep and rich and seldom dries out – even in our hot spells this year nothing seems to have suffered. Perhaps it’s because water percolates down to this, the lowest bed. Hesperantha, formerly known as schizostylis, loves ample moisture, good soil and a sunny position. That is what it has here and it’s rewarding us with a superb display. What a treat at this time of year.
