1 Go for what you like! The garden is your personal space and it’s there to be enjoyed, so don’t feel like you have to put in certain plants or arrange them in a certain way if you don’t want to! And while it can be a lot of work to maintain a lovely garden, it should be enjoyable too rather than just 2 a job that needs to be done. Think about structure – after summer it’s even more important to have things such as walls, trees or hedges that can add something to the garden when there are perhaps fewer flowers. And they look 3 lovely covered in frost! Don’t be put off by shade. Most gardens have shady areas and while not all plants will like it there, there are always several that will be perfectly happy. We have acers, rhododendr­ons, azaleas, hostas, primulas… all growing well in our woodland area.
