For your pots and baskets to carry colour through to the end of the season, combine yellow varieties with spiky rich purple salvias such as ‘Amistad’, pink with soft heathers and moody maroon heucheras such as ‘Obsidian’. Hardy Fuchsia magellanica flowers late on in the autumn, while dark red chrysanths or bronze types complement brown grasses well. White varieties look beautiful with low-mounded, bright-coloured asters.
