1 You’ll need a pan, lard (or suet), wild bird seed, cake tins, pinecones and garden twine to tie and make a hanger.

2 Mix room temperature lard and wild bird seed together in a pan or briefly warm on the hob to soften the lard.

3 Spoon bird seed mixture into moulds or push into pinecone scales. Your hand warmth will warm the mix to shape.

4 Push twine into mixture. Pop in the fridge and leave overnight until set. Remove moulds and hang in the garden.
