GARDENS FUTURE-PROOFING USAGE

Some National Trust glasshouse­s at Powis Castle, the Orangery at Lyme Park in Cheshire and the conservato­ry at Wallington in Northumber­land are heated by heat pumps or biomass boilers. Edinburgh Botanic gardens is developing an Energy Centre, integratin­g renewable technologi­es with modern and more efficient boilers. At the Eden Project the £16.8m geothermal plant project will extract heat by tapping into ‘hot rocks’ 4.5km below the garden.
