Chilling out in the veg patch

Many crops benefit from a period of cold weather. Apples and pears depend on winter chilling to fruit properly and, without it, garlic won’t swell as it should. Keep salads cropping for longer by protecting them with a cloche, and grow hardy leaves, such as rocket, mustard, mizuna and land cress, for fresh flavours in dark days.
