The plot is pretty in pink!

- Sandra Manning

An urban oasis in Twickenham with trees, shrubs and general planting with a variety of wildlife.

The garden is still flourishing, even though leaves have fallen all around. The colour pink is quite prevalent – sedum ‘Iceberg’ has put on a magnificent display, forming a wonderful mound. It almost looks like a bouquet of flowers. Fuchsias are still producing lots of blooms, and even the ones that have fallen to

the ground still provide a splash of extra colour. Lily ‘Roselily Anouska’, bought at the Hampton Court Flower Festival, has produced stunning pink flowers, very late in the year it seems but I'm not complaining! They look lovely beside the front door.

Cherry tomatoes in the troughs on the wall are still plentiful. They’re sweet and juicy as they’re sheltered and catch the late-afternoon sun, and it’s very handy just to pop outside and pick them. They did much better than the ones on allotment. It's the first year I haven't had much success with climbing French beans on the allotment, so I did a very late sowing in a large pot at home, and I’m pleased to say they’ve been a resounding success

– I’ll do the same again next year. Berries have been in abundance – the birds are spoilt for choice. There’s a pyracantha outside my office window and a robin often sits on a branch singing very sweetly to me. There’s plenty of activity among the fallen leaves from frogs foraging for food around the sides of the pond.

Indoors, I’ve made use of old bottles for those single roses that have been left looking lonely on plants, but still deserve a place in the kitchen. It’s good to have colour at this time of year!
