As the weather cools down and food sources become more scarce, it becomes more important to provide supplementary feed for wild birds. Hang feeders in open places, ideally close to a tree or hedges, to allow birds to feed with safety. Provide a variety of foods and clean the feeders every few weeks to reduce the spread of disease. Avoid cheap feeds that contain a lot of wheat, which many birds won’t eat. Keep feeders topped up regularly so birds become accustomed to the feeding stations. Don’t forget to provide fresh water too, especially in cold, freezing weather.
