Insulate outside taps
When temperatures plummet the last thing we want is frozen pipes, so avoid upset and insulate your outside tap. You can buy purpose-made polyethylene foam pipe insulation, which literally slips over the external tap, or you can make your own out of bubble wrap and fix with waterproof gaffer tape. String or even old socks make flexible ties. If possible, shut off the tap’s water supply so water isn’t sitting in the pipes; this will help prevent frost damage. If you still need access to the tap just be mindful of the weather.
