SUNFLOWER HEADS
Faded sunflower heads are almost as lovely as the full bloom ones during late summer. Just one full head of sunflower seeds is a real banquet for a small bird and will provide them with much-needed protein and fats. What to do now: Delay cutting down sunflowers so birds can get at them, or if you do, leave the flower heads on the ground, on bird tables or tied to a fence. Invest now in packets of varieties with the biggest heads – much more food for birds.
