EVENING PRIMROSE SEED HEADS

-

Having died down now after a summer of beautiful yellow flowers, evening primrose stands firm and produces rustic, long, brown seed pods all the way up each stem. Birds such as goldfinches like to start at the bottom, peeling each pod to get to seeds inside. Any that fall are a treat for smaller dunnocks or robins. What to do now: It’s not a well-known food source for birds, and you may be tempted to shear down dead plants, but leave them put for now and get the binoculars out! Indulge in a spot of autumn bird watching to see how they love this plant.
