Mass planting for full effect

-

As well as being used in informal planting schemes, growing alongside and mixed in with other plants, tulips lend themselves brilliantly to mass planting on their own to produce formal bedding displays.

While you may be tempted to go mad and plant a rainbow of colours, the most spectacular effects are achieved by planting one or two varieties at most – especially those that complement each other, such as pink and purple. If you like your extremes, go for colours on the opposite side of the colour spectrum that contrast perfectly together – such as yellow and purple. Or use white-flowered varieties to tone and cool down a strong bright red or orange.
