Still time to plant alliums

-

The peak time for planting ornamental onions is from September to November, but as late as mid-December is quite acceptable, and often preferable if you’re too busy with other garden jobs. To stop any risk of bulbs being planted in the soil now rotting off, or if your soil is too frozen and hard for planting, get them going in pots. You can use either big pots for patio displays or start them in small pots of multi-purpose compost so they can grow on before being planted out where you’d like them to flower next spring. This way you can exercise more control on their growth.
