Plant strawberries in growbags

-

Commercial fruit growers often grow strawberries in growing bags. It helps to raise the fruit off the ground, protecting them from slugs, and you can grow them in a cold greenhouse to produce earlier crops. Now’s the ideal time to plant them, especially if you have rooted runners from your plants. Mix in some controlled-release fertiliser with the compost and plant six young plants per bag. Keep them cool and moist over winter so they make good root growth ready for growing and fruiting next summer. Plants can be kept in the bags for a maximum of two years but are usually discarded after one season.
