Why do my spring bulbs rot after flowering?

I’m sure your soil must be heavy, cold or prone to waterlogging so lighten it by digging in compost where you’ll plant the new bulbs. Be sure to choose varieties described as good for naturalising. When planting the bulbs, place a handful of sand beneath them to prevent decay around the bottom of the bulbs.
