Transplant self-seeders from the lawn
Who doesn’t like free plants? Our lawns can unexpectedly be custodians of numerous self-seeded plants. Earlier in the year these plants can be easily missed as they’re constantly hacked back by mowing, but as grass growth slows, self-seeders can be seen. Ox-eye daisies, Alchemilla mollis (lady’s mantle), foxgloves and Linaria purpurea (purple toadflax) are prolific self-seeders and often spring up in lawns. Carefully dig up these treasures with as much root intact as possible and pot them on to bulk up overwinter, or transplant straight into a border.
