Check tubers occasionally to make sure they’re plump and firm. Don’t store in a warm place as they’ll shrivel.

If you leave the tubers in the soil, after cutting down the stems mulch with a few inches of compost to protect the roots in frosty weather.

Tubers left in the ground for several years can become over-crowded and flower quality can decline.
