1 Create whatever level areas you can with terracing and install barriers to keep the soil in the same place. Just gardening on a slope with no 2 flat areas is really difficult! Improve your soil – ideally with compost or leaf mould you make yourself. You need something to help knit the soil together and keep it all in one place, no matter what sort of garden you have. Mine is very dry and sandy but even with clay soil I’d suggest 3 digging in compost each year. Put the right plant in the right place. You will quickly see which plants are happy and which are not on a slope, so if something is not doing well, take it out and try it somewhere else. You can’t have plants that don’t earn their keep!
