WRITE AWAY

One of the great things about Garden Rail, and its sister magazines, is that we offer the chance for anyone to see their name in print. Although all the magazines have regular writers, for whose efforts we are always grateful, there’s plenty of space for newcomers too.

All you need to do is drop me a line with an idea for an article and I’ll be happy to discuss it with you. Don’t worry if you’ve never written before, all words and photos are polished before appearing on the page. After all, we want you to look your best, that way GR is the best magazine we can produce for the readers. Sending articles to magazines, in my case BRM, is how I started, and look how that turned out!

So, if you are building something new, why not take a few photos and let me see the finished result? You might be inspiring more modellers via these pages. You’ll even be paid a little for your efforts.

Talking of getting in touch, my e-mail address and phone number are in each issue. If you have a question about the magazine, you’ll have an answer by dropping me a line far faster than posting on social media. There are lots of groups and I can’t be watching all of them all the time, I have some track in urgent need of ballast!

This is the very typewriter the Rev W Awdry wrote his first Railway Series books on. Thomas the Tank Engine sprung to life from these very keys. Thanks to the Talyllyn Railway museum for letting me near this precious object, which can be seen in the recreation of Awdry’s study, part of the excellent narrow gauge museum.
