PRUNING GRAPES

Gardeners' World - - Monty’s Month -

Grapevines need pruning every year and during the vine’s winter dormancy is the best time to do it, cutting back to the most basic structure. Home-grown vines often have far too many bunches of grapes, resulting in small fruit of low quality, so the secret is to prune hard. I reduce the sideshoots then cut back the remaining ones to just two buds.

Pruning limits the bunches growing on a vine, so remaining bunches are plump and tasty
