MATTHEW SAYS Oh dear, new-build ‘soil’ really is a pain, and you may not like my advice! The weeds can be mastered by simply pulling them out – I don’t use chemicals, but if you decide to then don’t waste your money using weedkiller in winter as it won’t have much effect. The bigger problem is the rubble, which could hamper you for years. The best thing is to hire a mini-digger to remove the soil and start again with fresh material.
