Killing with care

I read with interest Weedkiller on trial ( Clippings, October issue). I volunteer for a local river trust group in tackling giant hogweed: one flowerhead contains 50,000 seeds, so it will spread prolifically unless controlled. As qualified operatives, we use Glyphosate 360 as it is the only product effective against hogweed that can be used (with care) near water. Without glyphosate, the public would be at far greater risk from the spread of invasive species. Christine Mundy, Stockton-on-Tees
