Prepare your beds
Tidy your borders ready for the first flushes of spring growth. Prune away any woody branches that have been damaged due to the ravages of winter weather. Cut back the old flower heads of the earliest emerging perennials. Weed the beds and look in the along paths and walls, or near plants, to remove snails and slugs or their eggs. Make sure leaf litter is loose to allow bulbs to emerge and finish off by applying a layer of compost mulch.
