Look after your cuttings

-

We keep our half-hardy perennial cuttings in a just frost-free-greenhouse over winter. Softwood cuttings of Helichrysum petiolare, the liquorice plant, root easily at the end of summer before the parent plant is composted. Even if cuttings have rooted well, do not repot – wait until spring so their growth can begin in earnest. Keep them on the dry side and water only when necessary. At the same time do a thorough check for aphids. We pinch back any prolific new growth to three to four leaves to maintain future vigour.
