A CHRISTINE SAYS No. This is because the tomato belongs to the Solanaceae family, a wide group of plants including potato, peppers and vines, and cucumber to the Cucurbitaceae group of melons, cucumbers and squash. There are very few members of different plant families that are compatible with each other, so a cross – either sexually, via cross pollination or by vegetative means, such as grafting together, would not be successful.
