Cutting stems

-

As the main flowers at the tip of the stem fade, look very carefully for signs of nodes – little joints that appear midway down the stem. Those nodes want to flower too, so cut back the stem to just above the highest node. This will encourage new growth. In next to no time, you’ll have a side branch with a gorgeous secondary display of blooms. Stubborn orchids can sometimes be coaxed to re-flower by placing the plant in a place that’s 5-10°C for four weeks and then returning to a much warmer spot.
