Sow sweet pea seeds

-

Sow sweet pea seeds now, to plant out in borders this spring and fill the garden with summer scent or the house with cut flowers.

Fill some pots with peat-free, multipurpose compost, firm them well then sow one sweet pea seed in the centre of each pot. Cover the seed with a 1cm layer of compost then soak from above with a watering can.

Mice love the seeds of the legume family (peas and beans), so place the seeds in a cold frame or sheltered spot, protected by some small gauge wire mesh. They’ll germinate and grow into strong seedlings before you plant them out by their supports later in the spring.
