Plant Jerusalem artichokes

-

Plant some tubers of Jerusalem artichoke now for an autumn and winter harvest. Plants will reach 2m high by the summer so they make a good wind break, but choose a spot where they won’t shade other crops in the veg patch. Prepare the area for planting by removing weeds and, ideally, dressing it with composted manure, which will release a slow supply of nutrients as plants develop. Plant the tubers 10-15cm deep and 30cm apart. Put out slug traps to stop them eating the early shoots.
