Plant shallots for the summer

Plant the last of the shallots now to harvest later in the summer. Use a trowel to plant individual bulbs 25cm apart into the surface so their noses poke just above the soil surface. Firm the bulbs in well to protect them from inquisitive birds, or frosts lifting them out before they’ve rooted in, and push them back in after bird attacks. Top dress with general fertiliser when they shoot into growth.
